Maria Asplund is an expert in bio‐electronics with a special interest in biomaterials for neuroelectronic interfaces and tissue engineering. She develops methods which can make future bioelectronics smaller, more energy efficient and durable.

Christian Böhler completed his dissertation “Electroactive Coatings as a Strategy to Reduce Tissue Inflammation and Increase the Functional Lifetime of Neuroelectronic Devices” in 2018. He is an expert in flexible micro-technology and bioelectronic materials.

PhD students

Nicole Jedrusik is working as a cell biologist in the field of functional skin tissue engeneering. Working many years at the University Hospital of Freiburg in the Department of Oral Biotechnology, she gains experience in wound healing research and the biomechanical influence of biomaterials for the fabrication of optimized 3D in vitro skin models.

José has a Masters Degree in Microsystems Engineering with expertise in micro-fabrication of biomedical devices. His current focus is the development and characterisation of electrodes and electronics for DC stimulation of cells in 2D and 3D cultures.

Carolin Kleber successfully defended her doctoral thesis with the title "Development and Characterization of a Conducting Polymer Hydrogel for Biomedical Applications", Jan 2020. She joined the EAC group 2014, funded by the BrainLinks-BrainTools Center of Excellence.
